About Us

The North Carolina Freedom Monument Project is a registered IRS 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable corporation. As an outgrowth of the Paul Green Foundation, the North Carolina Freedom Monument Project established its own charitable status in 2004 and established a prestigious advisory board and board of directors from across the state to fulfill the ambitious mission of the NCFMP.

The Mission of the North Carolina Freedom Monument Project is to create and strengthen bonds between diverse people, to educate and enhance mutual understanding and to serve as a model of cooperation, respect and common values.

The NCFMP will achieve these goals by sponsoring an open public process to conceive finance and create, in the capital city of Raleigh, a space for contemplation and inspiration and an extraordinary work of public art that serves and honors the African American experience and the struggle for freedom.
