The Campaign for Freedom Grove

With funds secured from a wide group of donors to complete the process of gathering ideas from across the state, NCFMP developed a school curriculum, and selected and hired an artist to design “Freedom Grove.” Now The North Carolina Freedom Monument is committed to raising the funds needed to prepare the site, fabricate and install the artwork in Raleigh.

Two recent gifts have provided significant momentum toward reaching the goal of $4.5 million. Under the leadership of Representative Alma Adams of Guilford County, the North Carolina State Legislature, through the Department of Cultural Resources, has appropriated $100,000 toward the construction of the monument.

Recognizing the need for additional unrestricted support to propel the project forward, the visionary Paul Green Jr. (and wife Skip), son of the legendary humanist and author Paul Green, presented a $200,000 Challenge Grant to the North Carolina Freedom Monument Project Board. The Greens challenged the Board: first, establish a comprehensive capital campaign plan; and second, raise $200,000 from the general public. Once a firm plan was in place, the Greens presented NCFMP with the first $100,000 installment. The second $100,000 will be presented once the Board matches their gift dollar for dollar.

All gifts to the project are tax-deductible and may be pledged over a period of three years.
